Starbucks = Evil

So I learned that some troops in Iraq contacted Starbucks to let them know they liked their coffee, and would it be possible for Starbucks to donate some to be sent to the troops? Starbucks' response was thus:

No, because we don't support the war.

Jackasses. I already hat Starbucks since they have some serious lack of ethics as a business, and now this. I don't drink coffee, but if you do buy from Starbucks, please try to refrain from now on. Seattle's Best is part of the evil empire, too. Thanks.

That sure sounds like an urban legend to me. Especially given Starbucks' habit of issuing long press releases that milk readers' attention for all it's worth ...

But even the idea of it is sad.

I thought so, too. After much digging because there were supposed "official" versions of the story from both sides, I've come to this conclsion. Starbucks said no because officially it claims the military doesn't meet it's criterion for being donated to, ie a charity. What makes me think an "agreement" was reached is the fact that the Marine who started it all has isued his own apology that claims Starbucks does support the military and he was wrong. I think Starbucks somehow bought his silence. Call me cynical, just don't call me late to dinner...
